Leg Press
A supported way to load the legs without balance demands.
What it trains
Quads, glutes, hip and knee extension strength.
Why it's useful
Excellent for building leg strength with a supported back and predictable path.
Setup
- Adjust the seat so your knees don't collapse to your chest at the bottom.
- Feet roughly hip-width, flat on the platform.
- Lower under control to a comfortable range.
- Press through the whole foot.
Three coaching cues
- Full foot on the platform
- Control the descent
- Don't lock the knees at the top
Common mistakes
- Lifting the heels
- Lowering into pain to chase depth
- Locking knees hard at the top
Reduce load and range.
Add load, add a pause at the bottom, or single-leg press with a light load.
Safety considerations
- Use the safety catches.
- Check the seat position before every set.
